Participants will be the judges  and the medal count at the end of the evening will determine the top wine country for the 2010 taste-off.

The Ultimate Pair-off: Wine vs. Beer with Cheese
Tasting
Tuesday, 30 March 2010
For my money, wine and cheese outpace even peanut butter and jelly as the classic combination in the world of gastronomy. Both wine and cheese can be consumed while fresh, simple and young or in their more complex forms when they are aged and mature. But let’s not forget beer!

Visit to Rodrigues Winery in Newfoundland
Industry News
Monday, 02 November 2009
I was fortunate enough to be in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on business and, having a day to kill, I ventured an  hour and a half out of town to Markland, home of the Rodrigues family winery, which many of us know for  their blueberry wine. They have specialized in wild berry and fruit wines since they opened in 1993, and since  2001 they also produce a line of liqueurs and brandies from their own distillery! A story not unlike our John  Hall here in Niagara Peninsula at Kittling Ridge/Forty Mile Creek.

Victoria Winemaker Tasting and Dinner
Passing Scene
Friday, 23 October 2009
More than one hundred delighted guests from the Australian High Commission, Australia Trade Commission,  Victorian Government, the Australian Wine Society and the National Capital Sommelier Guild enjoyed this  wine tasting seminar and a delicious Australian meal at Restaurant International. Winemaker Chris Pfeiffer from  Pfeiffer Winery led the (speed) tasting with assistance from winemakers/owners of nine wineries. It was a  special treat to meet and mingle with the winemakers—a rare opportunity here in Ottawa.

Summer Dining with New and Old World Wines
Passing Scene
Monday, 07 September 2009
Guild governor and Ottawa Citizen food writer Gay Cook opened up the magnificent Bayne-Morrison House to  her fellow wineaux for a late-summer feast, on Tuesday, August 25. For once, the weather held up long enough  for guests to enjoy the luxury of an evening al fresco, in the company of good friends, great wine and fabulous  food.

Don't Drink and Drink
The National Capital Sommelier Guild strongly supports moderate and responsible consumption of wine and spirits. Guild dinner events allow a designated driver to attend at a reduced price. The designated driver will not be served alcohol. Guild tasting events provide and encourage the use of spit buckets.
