Best Values of the General List
Thursday, 29 May 2008
How often have you been asked by your friends and relatives to recommend a good wine under $10, $15, or $20? “Hidden treasures”, “great value” and “smart buy” might be some of the terms you use when looking for a wine from the LCBO General List and Vintages Essentials. I mean, who isn’t on the lookout for a decent, inexpensive wine! It’s great to have a mental list of great wines at the ready—for that recommendation, to take to a party, or to enjoy after a hard day at work. And what if you find that quintessential wine that costs $10, but tastes like $20!

She is a past Director of the Guild who was named Canada’s Best Sommelier in 2006 and placed in the Top Ten at the World’s Best Sommelier competition in Greece in 2007. She is always interesting and entertaining and will present a variety of premium wines, probably a sparkling or two, a Riesling or two and there is sure to be something different there.

Northern Hemisphere vs. Southern Hemisphere
Thursday, 26 June 2008
The so-called “flying winemakers”, travelling back and forth between the hemispheres with the changing seasons, can apply their skills year round. Is this changing the world of wines? We will put this to the test by pitting five northern hemisphere Cabernet Sauvignons against five of their southern counterparts.

Moderation
Don't Drink and DrinkThe National Capital Sommelier Guild strongly supports moderate and responsible consumption of wine and spirits. Guild dinner events allow a designated driver to attend at a reduced price. The designated driver will not be served alcohol. Guild tasting events provide and encourage the use of spit buckets.
It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend; one’s present or future thirst; the excellence of the wine; or any other reason.
