Food Network TV Premiere of “This Food, That Wine” Print

Thursday, 14 September 2006, 7:00 p.m.
Chelsea Club, 236 Metcalfe St. (at Somerset)

Join us for a celebration of a local success story while supporting wine education. The Guild will be screening the premiere of Food Network TV’s new show, “This Food, That Wine,” hosted by Ottawa-based Sommelier Stacey Metulynsky and Chef Angie MacRae.

Many of us know Stacey as a fellow Guild member, the co-founder of Groovy Grapes, the resident sommelier and instructor at Urban Element cooking studio or as an Ottawa-based wine consultant, writer, educator and graduate of the Algonquin College Sommelier Certificate Program. In 2004, Stacey was the recipient of the NCSG Scholarship for Wine Education. Recently she was named to Ottawa Life Magazine's “Top 50 in the Capital”. This fall she will become a wine celebrity across North America with her charming, chilled, and fun approach to wine, recommending matches for Angie’s creative culinary delights.

Angie started cooking at a young age and is a graduate of Stratford Chefs School. Her “food education” stretches far outside of the classroom, stemming from her experiences cooking in remote Northern Ontario, and as baker and food marketer in the world of premium ingredients and natural products where she found her calling. Like Stacey, she takes a fun approach to food, whether everyday meals or special events for the diplomatic community.  Come meet Angie and Stacey September 14th!

Also, don’t miss the opportunity to bid for fabulous wine and dining experiences, overnight getaways and wine paraphernalia in the silent auction while enjoying tasty morsels of gourmet food prepared by the Chelsea Club’s chef Sean Murphy and premium wines to celebrate in style.

Revenues from this special night will enhance the Guild’s scholarship fund, providing for the Botner-Nicholson scholarship, named for the Guild’s founding Directors and the above-mentioned NCSG Scholarship for Wine Education. A limited number of tickets will be available for the nominal price of $45.

Guild VP Martin Carrierre and Director Natale Lofaro have carefully selected premium wines for your enjoyment including the following:

  • 2004 Niagara Peninsula, Sauvignon Blanc, Henry of Pelham
  • 2004 Bacharacher Hahn, Riesling Kabinett, Toni Jost
  • 1999 Lamezia Riserva DOC, Calabria, Italy, Cantine Lento
  • 2004 Pinot Noir Reserve, Marlborough, New Zealand, Goldridge Estate
  • 2003 Gigondas, Chateau Raspail
  • 2004 Clos de los Siete, Mendoza, Argentina, Michel Rolland

Chelsea Club’s chef Sean Murphy will be preparing the following morsels for your enjoyment:

  • Roasted root vegetable strudel with herb chevre
  • Beet and vodka cured salmon (with shaved fennel and frisee lettuce)
  • Rare roast beef shaved and served with a oven roasted tomato and caramelized shallot confit
  • Chinese BBQ Duck and Asian pear slaw
  • Miniature brandy spiked shrimp cocktails
  • Risotto with fresh peas, rosemary and proscuitto ham
  • Chilled vodka and tomato bisque

Thirty lots of silent auction items will be up for grabs including several overnight stays at luxury hotels, dining experiences at Ottawa best restaurants, plus wines donated by wineries and private cellars. Some lots will go for less than $100, most for under $200.
