Hopefully, by the time you read this Spring will be well underway. After a March hiatus due to school break week and an early Easter, we have a full calendar of Guild events for April and May. There are six tasting events in April and five in May along with the May 5 Annual General Meeting.
Spring is a typically slow period for northern hemisphere winemakers so we have been able to arrange for three winemaker tastings. Winemaker tastings are always interesting and informative. I encourage you to attend these events to compare the wine styles of Kacaba Vineyards in the Niagara region, Colio Estate Vineyards from the Lake Erie North Shore and Delicato Family Vineyards from Napa Valley in California.
We are also fortunate to have Guild Governor Emeritus Peter Ward join us as guest host of the second 15th anniversary tasting. Peter has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an international journalist and wine writer. He was the Ottawa Citizen’s wine columnist for twenty-nine years. His book “Don’t Spit The Good Stuff” chronicles his fascinating adventures tasting wine around the world. This promises to be an entertaining evening as Peter shares his wealth of information on grapes, grape growing, and winemaking as well as some fine wines from his personal collection.
