Summer is upon us and, hopefully, will be long and pleasant. As always we run a reduced schedule of events in the summer. The Chelsea Club is closed during July and August so the events we do have are in other venues, some outdoors.
This summer we will be hosting events at Director Antonio Mauriello’s new Divino Wine Studio on Preston Street and one at Governor Gay Cook’s heritage home. More on these events to come.
Summer is also the time when your directors plan the fall and winter event lineup and we are always looking for new ideas.

Is there a particular wine region or wine style you’d like to learn more about?
Would you like to partner with a Guild director in hosting an event of your choice?
Would you be willing to donate a bottle of wine from your cellar for a premium Guild tasting in support of a local charity?

A new feature we would like to introduce to the newsletter is a Letters column. If you have had an interesting wine experience, discovered a new wine you really liked, toured a wine region, or have anything else you’d like to talk about, send an e-mail to
and we’ll print as many of the best as we have space for. The success of this initiative will depend on you so ‘keep those e-mails coming’.
The National Capital Sommelier Guild strongly supports moderate and responsible consumption of wine and spirits. Guild dinner events allow a designated driver to attend at a reduced price. The designated driver will not be served alcohol. Guild tasting events provide and encourage the use of spit buckets.
