Beaujolais Renaissance Print

Thursday, 25 September 2008, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Chelsea Club, 236 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa

Some wine writers—at least in the francophone press—are quietly announcing a “Beaujolais renaissance” that has nothing to do with Nouveau. Wine drinkers are apparently taking a renewed interest in these affordable and food-friendly wines, while producers are refining their methods to better express the unique character of their vineyards.

So, are these writers (and drinkers) on to something? Just in case, dust-off your Beaujolais basics through a tasting of the different terroirs of the region led by Martin Carrière and Yohanna Loucheur. Focusing on stellar years 2005 and 2006, they will cover all Beaujolais AOCs, including the 10 crus (can you name them?), with examples from those putting the region back on the map (e.g., Brun, Vissoux). Leave your pre-conceptions at home and expect to be pleasantly surprised! Small appetizers traditionally served with Beaujolais wines will be offered during the tasting. The wine list will feature:

  • Beaujolais blanc
  • Beaujolais
  • Beaujolais villages
  • Brouilly
  • Chénas
  • Chiroubles
  • Côte de Brouilly
  • Fleurie
  • Juliénas
  • Morgon
  • Moulin à vent
  • Régnié
  • Saint-Amour
Members and Sponsored Guests: $34.00 + $1.70 (GST) = $35.70
