After a summer that almost wasn’t, the Fall season is now upon us. A new season is a good time to try out some new ideas. We have heard from some members that they would like to see more events featuring guest presenters. The success of our winemaker tastings, 15th anniversary events, and Women in Wine Series seem to bear this out so we have planned more of this type of event in coming months.
We start off on September 8 with a premium tasting led by Barossa Valley winemaker Grant Burge at the Cordon Bleu Signatures restaurant. If you haven’t already booked this event, do it now while space is still available.
Later in the month, the 4th in the series of 15th Anniversary tastings will feature well known wine writer and Guild governor Rod Phillips, another not-to-miss event.
This popular series will continue with Richard Thibodeau in October and conclude with Pierre Dupont in November.
On September 25, Guild member Yohanna Loucheur will share with us her love of all things Beaujolais.
We will also be changing some of our upcoming VPR tastings.Since the November VPR would have fallen the day before the start of the 2008 Wine and Food Show we decided instead to move it to Saturday and run it as one of our tutored tastings at the show. This tasting will feature the Bordeaux wines being released by LCBO Vintages the same day. We hope to have one of the Vintages Product Consultants conduct the tasting for us.In a similar vein, we will be inviting well known LCBO Product Consultants to be guest presenters at future VPR events. Product consultants get a chance to preview the wines prior to release so they will be able to select wines for our tastings based on this experience. Finally, be sure to reserve Sunday, December 7 on your calendar for the Guild’s annual Holiday Gala.
Our commitment as always is to provide outstanding value at our events, make them informative and interesting, and to provide a range of events to suit all tastes and budgets.
The National Capital Sommelier Guild strongly supports moderate and responsible consumption of wine and spirits. Guild dinner events allow a designated driver to attend at a reduced price. The designated driver will not be served alcohol. Guild tasting events provide and encourage the use of spit buckets.
