It has been a year since the Chelsea Club closed, three years of fond memories—good food and great wine—for Chef Sean Murphy. The Chelsea Club was his home for three years. It was a place where he met many wonderful friends and created many cherished memories. Lasting memories came from the many dinners the Club hosted with the Guild, in particular food and wine pairings with Phil Nicholson, Martin Carriere, Jay Hunt, Antonio Mauriello and James Bertrand to name only a few. These events gave him an unmatched opportunity to advance his knowledge of wine and, most importantly for a chef, the art of pairing food with world class wines. Several years at the Chelsea Club combined with an education at the Cordon Bleu Paris Cooking School and the Culinary Institute of America and positions at Truffles Four Seasons and Scaramouche Pasta Bar and Grill in Toronto, and Café Henry Burger in Ottawa have prepared Sean for his latest venture, a truly unique fine food concept called Scratch Kitchen.
Scratch Kitchen, located in Stittsville, prepares affordable, gourmet meals, frozen and delivered to your home, tax free and with no delivery fee. It is an ideal solution for time-strapped families, older family members who may not have the means to prepare good meals for themselves, and work-hard, play-hard singles who don’t have the time to cook yet want to eat well.
Sean uses locally-sourced and organic ingredients whenever possible. All meals are prepared without preservatives, or additives, and are low in sodium. The menu was planned for the global foodie, but includes some comfort foods for those days when you just want some down-home cooking and also has vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. Menu items range from single portions ($5) to family-sized meals serving 3-4 ($16). Shoppers can load up their online carts and pay by credit card or cash on delivery. Delivery zones focus on Ottawa West, Ottawa South, and as far northeast as Rockcliffe Park. Orders are delivered once per week on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, depending on the zone. Look for us at your favorite farmers market in the spring. For more information, see www.scratchkitchen.com, call Sean at 613-601-0672 or send an email to

The National Capital Sommelier Guild strongly supports moderate and responsible consumption of wine and spirits. Guild dinner events allow a designated driver to attend at a reduced price. The designated driver will not be served alcohol. Guild tasting events provide and encourage the use of spit buckets.
