Celebrity Wine Challenge Print

Thursday, June 24, 2010, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Vendange Institute, 440 Albert Street, Suite C108

Wayne Gretzky, Mike Weir, Francis Ford Coppola (and others) will be our guests. Well maybe they won’t be here in person, but we can dream can’t we? Before long, the question we may find ourselves asking will be: which celebrity is not, in some way, shape or form, involved in the wine business? From athletes to musicians to famous directors to movie stars, it seems a new celebrity jumps on the wine bandwagon every week. Why? Well a celebrity name on a bottle can lure consumers away from their regular brand. Celebrity-branded alcohol beverage products—those directly associated with a famous person—are gaining popularity in the US, and wine is leading the category, having grown steadily in sales and category share since 2000. However, what is crucial is whether what's in the bottle pleases your palette. Guild Director Robert White and you will put some of the celebrities’ varietals head-to head. From chardonnay, to cab-merlots to big reds, we will put a dozen or so wines to the test. You may be pleasantly surprised!
